Clinical Observations on Severe Chest Injuries

Abstract

|
Clinical observations and brief reviews have been presented in handling sixty major thoracic injury patients who were admitted to the Division of Chest Surgery, Seoul University Hospital, between January 1957 and February 1961.
Among the sixty patients, thirty-five were from penetrating injuries, whereas twenty-five were from non-penetrating injuries.
The principles of early and rapid re-expansion of the lungs and of initial conservative management were accepted, but open thoracotomy have to be done on seventeen cases as a life saving procedure.
